1. Make sure you are aware of the IRS rules governing Required Minimal Distributions (RMDs) and QCDs, including whether your type of IRA qualifies.

We recommend consulting a tax or investment professional.

2. Notify your IRA custodian of your intentions and the amount of your donation so their firm can distribute the funds on your behalf.

Please note: A key rule about QCDs is that the distributions must be made directly from the IRA to the tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization, not to you. This means that the check or wire transfer must be made out to Focus for Democracy Fund. If it is made out to you, it is counted as a taxable distribution.
