FAQs

Generator Questions

  • We are sending more than one kind, but they are all electric and at least 1000 watts. You need to charge your generator OVERNIGHT before you play. Even if you have your own generator, we'd like you to use ours, because it's been field tested to last both sets.

  • We will Pay You the amount we owe you, minus the generator deposit specified in your contract within 96 hours. Generator is valued at $650

You will be sent a special shipping label which you MUST USE TO RETURN YOUR GENERATOR.

If your Shipping Label is not scanned by 11/11/2024, we will assume that you are keeping the generator.

    • KEEP ALL PACKING MATERIAL AND SHIPPING LABEL

    • Make Sure to Include the Cord

    • DO NOT USE A DIFFERENT BOX OR CREATE A NEW LABEL!

    • We will hold back the deposit specified in your contract until we receive the generator in good, working order.

If your Shipping Label is not scanned by 11/11/2024, we will assume that you are keeping the generator*

  • Professional DJs MUST have their own equipment: speaker, mixing board, laptop, table, etc. So you may have a generator too. You're welcome to bring it with you as back up, but we want you to use ours since we know it will last.

  • Watch this video about how the generator gets charged.

Getting Paid

  • DJs get $500 per 4-hour set. Most DJs will do two set, (e.g., four hours at one location, and four hours at another), so will earn $1000 for the day.

  • We try to pay everyone within 48 hours of Election Day. Depending on the payment method you choose, your money may take longer to appear in your account. DJs will be paid the amount owed - $500 per set - MINUS $100. Once you fill out our post-election survey, you will receive the remaining $100 within 48 hours.

  • For payment, take a picture of yourself while you’re DJ’ing at EACH polling location and fill out the checkin form we will text, email and send you a QR code for.

We will send you a payment link through DOTS, our payroll platform. You may be required to submit a W9 through the app.

DOTS lets you choose your payment method. CashApp, Venmo, Paypal…just about every method besides cash is available.

Other Questions

  • People vote, rain or shine, so DJs at the Polls plays rain or shine, too! If the weather is a safety issue, someone from DJs at the Polls will let you know what to do. If extreme weather is forecast, we’ll provide instructions on our plans.

  • No. We do not expect there to be any Wifi or outlets available. Make sure your equpment is fully charged.

  • Election Day in WIsconsin is April 1st. Sets are 7am-11am, and 4pm-7pm. Exact locations will be sent to you closer to Election Day, and we try our best to place everyone as close to home as possible.

  • Go ahead. Just please use OUR BRANDING alongside your own, with ours prominent. We have worked hard to make sure people know DJs at the Polls is coming. Having our tablecloth and hat helps people identify you as part of the program.

Rules and Procedures

  • We will host a mandatory info session prior to election day. We’ll tell you everything you need to know, including how far you need to set up from the polling entrance and relevant noise restrictions. YOU NEED TO ATTEND EVEN IF YOU’VE DJ’d WITH US BEFORE. We learned a lot in November, and now we are ready to share that new info with you.

  • Play what you think people in your area will like!  Just make sure it’s radio friendly - with clean versions of all tracks. Be mindful of your location: if you’re outside a church or elementary school, for example, you might play different music than you would on a University campus.

  • We are non-partisan, which means we cannot promote any particular candidate or cause. That means no T-shirts with political party or candidate logos, no telling people who to vote for, and no providing any benefit - including playing their favorite song - in exchange for their vote.

Social Media

  • Post a minimum of 6 times. twice before Election Day and twice from each set location. And make sure to tag us: @djsatthepolls

  • Any platform! (Though we prefer Instagram). And don't forget to tag us @djsatthepolls and use the hashtag #djsatthepollsNC (replace with your state's initials)

  • Be upbeat and positive, encourage people to come out, hear you play, and VOTE. But DO NOT post about candidates, or tell people who to vote for, or how to vote.

  • Graphics, frames, logos and sample post text can be found on the DJ Hub: djsatthepolls.org/djhub

Volunteering

  • Feel free to bring a friend along with you to volunteer by helping you to set up, keeping the party vibe happening, or just getting you a snack and some water! We may also have need for volunteers to do some work promoting the program before election day. We will let you know how friends can help.
